About the Academy of Innovation

The Academy of Innovation began as the Hybrid School of Innovation (HSOI) in August 2016 as a blended learning program for high school students, where students attended campus 2-3 days per week for classes and worked remotely the remainder of the week.  Beginning with the 2020 school year, HSOI began operating in a fully virtual environment while retaining the option for students to physically attend the Learning Center at HSOI on the John F. Kennedy Middle College High School (JFKMCHS) campus.

Beginning with the 2021 school year, the Academy of Innovation expanded to serve students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Students are provided a rigorous curriculum using Edgenuity as the central online curriculum platform.  Edgenuity features standards-based and A-G approved courses, and the curriculum supports high achievement for students at all levels.

The Academy of Innovation features a full-time instructional staff, occasionally supplemented by part-time CNUSD teachers. This allows the school to offer the broadest set of course options for students.  Secondary students may also enroll in up to two brick-and-mortar courses through their home school (such as CTE pathway, performing arts, and athletics courses).
